I Finally Drive A Tesla! Model S P100D

No such thing as "low center of gravity" or "pulling g's"(unless you're a Planetary Body or the Moon or some such thing.) Spot on about structural rigidity but what in fact your chassis is is more akin to a skateboard which is why the car has such unique and uniquely good drive feel and quality. There simply are not the myriad of moving parts...simple as that. Having said that this is not a vehicle that will be losing weight as it is driven nor is a battery anywhere near the energy output of a square liter of gasoline if you want some chemistry in your physics as well. Would have been nice to see the driver review this vehicle's "navigate on auto pilot" feature and other autonomous driving features (auto park, summon, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, front collision warning, etc) but by the by a fun video to watch. This and the other 2 Tesla Models (X,3) definitely have an ability to revolutionize transportation in the immediate future (6-8 weeks) given these other features. I simply have zero interest in any internal combustion driven auto at the moment so long as these vehicles are in production and receiving their "over the air updates." Did like watching a review of the Cadillac CT6 tho and it's autonomous driving approach.

It's fast to 60mph without a doubt. However if you look at it's acceleration from 0-140mph weird things start to happen it does 0-140mph with ludicrous mode in around 17 seconds which is how fast a stock 1996 sti ra does 0-140mph. The sti has half the horsepower and 1/3 of the torque.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea refers not to depth but to horizontal distance. A league has meant different things in different times and places, but generally it's 2 to 3 miles. 20,000 leagues is therefore twice around the Earth. They were referring to the distance covered by the submarine, not the depth. Depth is historically measured in fathoms, where one fathom equals to 6 feet.

yes its not as efficient as other electric cars, but it at roughly 70mpge its still 3x as efficient as the average suv its size. (20-25 mpgs) in fact thats still way better then most economy cars and hybrids. could it be better yes, but it sure as hell beats out combustion vehicles.

Okay so if this car weighs as much as a large pickup, why can't a modified turbodiesel pickup with 600+ hp and 1,000+ lb-ft go 0-60 in 2.5 seconds? Is it because of the near-instant torque from the electric powertrain?

Thank you for the informative video, I realize this is not your car; however, I am hoping you know the owner and can forward my question to him/or her so I can know if other owners cars compare to mine with regard to charging mph rate with the supplied 32 amp cable. I recently purchased a Model S P100D. I am having a bit of an issue with regard to the mph charging rate with the supplied 32 amp cable that comes with the new Model S P100D and I hope you can shed some light on it for me. The problem I am having is when using the supplied charging cable (which is rated at 32 amps) I am only getting about 21 mph (which is under spec, should be at least 23 mph) charging rate when plugged into the NEMA 14-50, 240V outlet. Could you please tell me what mph charge rate you get with your model S P100D with the suppled 32 amp cable when plugged into a NEMA 14-50, 240V outlet? I would very much appreciate your help with this. Thanks, Scott

This video just attracted a flock of Elon cult followers ... very clever sir click baiting sir. Like fruit flies to a banana ... they will come when u put Tesla in the title. Sad that 95% of Elon's cult followers never cared about cars, car enthusiats, autosports, but just want to worship the next thing and most cant afford it. And the ones that do buy a Tesla can't drive and definitely dont drive fast ... basically use it as a status symbol to putter around town like the Prius when they first became the hit hip thing.

Very good video but I do not think the Tesla model S has a smooth ride with the tire pressure at 45 psi cold. I had to drop the tire pressure to 38 psi cold to get a smooth ride. I hope that the lower pressure does not cause too much tire wear. Our Tesla is the 2018 model S 100D and it is fast enough for me. The auto pilot needs some improvement. I believe it has caused some accidents as I have had to take over too many times to get the car under control when it started off track. One last thing: The service center here in San Diego will drive customers away from Tesla if it does not improve soon.

Autonomous driving: Not a single word. Fit an MTB in the back without taking the wheel off: I'm loving it. Really though, it's not about the electric stuff. It's about the artificial intelligence for driving for you. This is the story of 2020+, and Tesla is a pioneer. HOwever most of all, this car does not pollute cities, as the pollution it creates is at the power plant on the grid. These are usually not in population centers. The PM2.5 are down and this makes us healthier.

Just a clarification. Single Gear you meant is no shifting is happening. Tesla Model S and X have 2 sets of helical gears, thus a two stage gear reduction directly coupled to the motor on one end and the wheel (axle) on the other. It has a total fixed ratio of 9.3 on front and 9.7 on rear.

Well, the price of a Tesla is the biggest problem. I wonder how easy it would be to get out of warranty service done and at what cost. Otherwise, the Tesla wins in pretty much all categories. These Teslas seem to make combustion engines look obsolete, like clunky steam engines, requiring shifts in gears, regular toxic fluid changes, more parts, more maintenance, exhaust, less torque, less efficiency, less cargo space and even less appeal to the unbiased driver. If battery tech improves significantly, especially it's price, that's obviously GG for Gasoline. Electricity confers versatility of energy sources.

Talking about all these rotors got me wondering if Mazda gave the rights to the rotery engine to tesla 😂😂 Then you realize the process to produce electric cars is muuuch less Efficient and costs so much more gas and Diesel to create. Lol if electric cars are the future our future is doomed.

So glad to see you review a Tesla, and totally not surprised that you were blown away by it. Please review a Performance Model 3. Minor correction: the reason the brakes have a nice progressive feel, with none of the typical problems that other EVs have, is that they don't blend in any regen. You do have regen, but only from easing off the throttle. You don't get more regen when you press the brake pedal. Oh, and both regen and steering weight can be adjusted on the screen.

Phenomenal video and happy you finally got the chance to test out the P100D. Technological masterpiece of this era. I have one recommendation for the video though. You mentioned that the car is “fast” multiple times, but I think better and more proper terminology is “quick.” I used to use the two interchangeable until I became a cult follower of Tesla (lol), and in relation to other high-end cars, a 155 mph top speed is nothing. Just a thought! Have a great weekend 😊
